  • Description

All Open-Box AudioQuest NightOwl Headphones ship with no cosmetic damage and in like-new condition.

The NightOwl Carbon from AudioQuest is easily a favourite in the office of headphones.com. One of our favourite closed-backs currently on the market, the NightOwl Carbons bring a very unique listening experience. Working 8-12 days with headphones can be a pain with clamping pressure, uncomfortable earpads, and headphone fatigue is not fun for anyone. The NightOwl Carbons are one of the most comfortable closed-back headphones on the market, with a super laid-back sound signature that is fun to listen to for hours on end. The NightOwl Carbons are the perfect headphones for those who love listening to EDM, trance, rap and so much more. While we wouldn't recommend them for classical as they are a little recessed in the highs, they are a very fun headphone for relaxed listening sessions!

    Closed-Back Design

Hidden beneath the central circular portion of NightOwl’s ear cups, a vent runs along the perimeter of each dome and exits through a hidden airflow-resistive port. Thus, unlike other headphones that use a sealed enclosure, NightOwl is designed to effectively relieve the buildup of pressure, allowing the drivers to breathe freely, ensuring that any impulses quickly return to an innocuous resting state—with no ringing, oscillation, or resonance.

    Remarkable Resolution

Compared to the drive-units commonly used in most headphones, NightOwl’s 50mm dynamic driver much more closely resembles the high-quality drive-units found in today’s most sophisticated loudspeakers—not simply in appearance, but, more importantly, in terms of function and performance. It employs a carefully constructed bio-cellulose diaphragm, voice-coil former, and compliant rubber surround, resulting in quality that is as easily seen as it is heard.

    Comfortable Listening

NightOwl’s headpad attaches to its outer headband via small, swiveling pins located on either side of the headband’s base, just above the suspension’s yoke. An inner elastic band is concealed by a soft, modestly cushioned pad, which yields and rises when met by resistance or pressure. In this simple way, the headpad automatically adjusts to the listener’s head—no clicking, snapping, cranking, or guessing involved—guaranteeing an easy, comfortable fit, time and time again. Just place NightOwl over your head and let it do its thing. There’s nothing else to do, but enjoy.

    Different but surprising

Have had these for a few months now. Don't have an account so sorry for the guest review. The only headphones I have owned that have stuck around as long as these are the HD600's. I've owned Audeze's, Hifimans, etc. etc. Many of these higher end headphones always have some flaw that I can't ignore. There are just certain things that I find very appealing about these. There comfort is no joke; seriously I wish the industry would take note on these. MrSpeakers comes close, but these are just as light as a feather. As for the sound, it's a mixed bag. I can understand why some people would dislike these. If you A/B with another high end set, your gonna find flaws real quick. There are things that the community has said that I flat out disagree with: for example, these are NOT bass-head phones, and for reference I thought the lcd-x was one. Even compared to the HD600, it's lacks some dynamism to it's sound. However, just like the HD600 is compared to other open back sets, I haven't found a closed back out there that's as much of pleasure to listen to as these. There's no serious lack of detail retrieval, no peaks in the treble, no mid-range suck out, or other problems I seem to always find in some more expensive sets. They just offer a very relaxed listen, which the comfort seriously helps with. All in all I'm glad I bought them, but because I've kind of been there and done that - I would not recommend them as your only pair of headphones.
