The Legendary Focal Utopia,
The Lamborghini of High-End Audio

"Unarguably one of the finest headphones on the planet." - What HiFi

The Focal Utopia Headphones take everything Focal learned building some of the world's finest speakers and built an incredible personal listening experience.

These headphones are incredible for many reasons, but the most important one is that the drivers have been engineered from Beryllium. Why does that matter? Beryllium is ultra-light, ultra-thin and ultra-rigid. This translates to a driver that moves fast and reproduces sound in a way that can trick your brain into believing you are in the room with the musicians.

The Utopias are made in France and you can tell they have paid attention to every detail both inside and out.

Drivers
The Utopia features large 40mm full-range "M"-shaped dome drivers made of pure Beryllium. Beryllium is 3 times more rigid than Titanium, and 5 times more rigid than Aluminum, with only 40% of the density of Titanium, and 70% of the density of Aluminum. This combination of low mass, high rigidity, and high damping factor makes Beryllium an ideal material for a speaker driver.Open Headphone DesignFocal decided that to unleash the Utopia's full potential they needed an open headphone design. The open design maximizes the reproduction of accurate and detailed frequencies to create the most natural listening experience. Ear Cups

The circum-aural (they cover your whole ear) ear cups feature 20mm thick memory foam cushions, covered by a bi-material construction made with true lambskin leather and perforated microfiber fabric. This combo provides a balance between a lively room with lots of reverb and a "damp" room with no reflections. The result is a flat frequency response in the upper mid and high frequencies between 1 kHz and 10 kHz.

... and the lambskin makes them very comfortable!

Cable
The included 13-inch high fidelity cable features 24 AWG conductors with OFC (oxygen-free copper) shielding and an extremely low impedance (under 90 mΩ). The 2-sided cable features shielded 9.5mm Lemo connectors with a self-locking bayonet system to plug into the ear cups. The end of the cable has a standard 1/4" plug.

."Its (Focal's) 35 years of speaker design experience shows here. The highlight is the 40mm Beryllium drive unit, which covers the frequency range from 5Hz to 50kHz
...As you’d expect at this level, these Focals are built beautifully, combining leather, carbon fibre and metal to produce a product that feels like it’ll last for years..." What Hi-Fi

"Overall, I think this headphone out resolves hyper-detailed headphones such as the HE1000, SR-009, and HD800 and then improves on their desirable traits. The price is definitely steep at $4,000 though it can be justified for getting the most performance from cost-is-no-object amplifiers that can run from $5,000 and above excluding tubes.

I would give the Utopia a resounding YES to whoever can afford and is having doubts to purchase this headphone. The Utopia can definitely hold its ground to whatever it’s thrown at genre-wise and this is through a few months of use now, so no holiday period here." Headphonics

"...this is a sexy headphone! In my world, killer audio gear is black, and the Utopia is unapologetically, confidently, bad-ass black...All-in-all this is a stealth-black sexy build, with terrific materials, and just the right balance of understatement and bling...the Utopia is a battle-ready flagship headphone...there's a clear difference between the Elear and Utopia: the Elear has great punch and dynamic control, but the Utopia bests it in balancing solid dynamic impact with nuanced resolve...Focal has largely redefined...or better said, refined anew, what it means to be a high-end headphone. A technological tour de force..." Inner Fidelity
